One of the hidden jewels of Wichita, Kansas is the Kansas Aviation Museum. Tucked away at the very end of South George Washington Blvd right at the edge of McConnell Airforce Base, aviation history is waiting for you at the Kansas Aviation Museum. Dozens of actual aircraft ranging from small business jets to massive cargo planes sit outside the museum on the tarmac behind it. After paying admission you also have access to several floors of airplane engines, control panels, entire planes and a simulator all housed in the original airport of Wichita, Kansas. A beautiful art deco style building built in the 1930’s, the airport was commonly a last stop before Denver or Los Angeles. As a result many legends of film and industry spent time at the airport eating at the restaurant and walking the terrazzo floors. People like Howard Hughes, Fred Astaire, and Bob Hope along with countless others. Here in Wichita folks take pride in our aviation history and boast about our city as “The Air Capitol of the World”. One visit to the Kansas Aviation Museum and you will understand why.
